This month at STEM Scotland

EXCITING NEWS! On Tuesday 21st June 2022 I will be on
BBC Radio Scotland to talk about STEM! Tune in from 11.30am!

What I've been up to

2021-22 is fair flying in! This year for the first time I ran a STEM Club for Nursery & Kindergarten in one of my schools. This has been an outstanding success and will run again next year; great news!

Dr Dot's Science Club is an After-School Club, where pupils carry out hands-on experiments; pupils also get their own "Lab Book" which they add to each week, and take home at the end. The very last session is usually our Science Fair, where pupils can invite a Guest; this will resume as soon as Covid precautions allow. Each pupil is also presented with their Scientist Certificate, detailing their own Specialist Skill.

The emphasis is very much on skills development, both scientific and personal, and we have four simple rules; perhaps the most important of which is to Have Fun!

I am also honoured to have been made a Fellow of the British Society of Pharmacology recently. I have some Pharmacology-related Club experiments in the pipeline so watch this space!

Strategies & Plans

At STEM Scotland I aim to put equality, inclusion and accessibility at the heart of everything I do.
I am currently aiming to extend the reach of Dr Dot's Science Club with my Online Science Clubs. Interested? Drop me a line!

Science is Everywhere; join the fun!

Announcing an exciting new phase of Dr Dot's Science Club...I now have a Nursery and Kindergarten section! This has proved so popular it has attracted half of the entire cohort in the school to sign up! Building on this success I also set up an After-School Club for P1-P4 last term. Fantastic!

And...Dr Dot's Science Club goes online! I'm building a digital version with on-demand experiment videos; collect all the stuff in our Science Treasure Hunt and join in the fun from the comfort of your own home!

Online Courses are also in development, to help you make sense of the science all around us in our everyday lives - sign up to my Newsletter and join Dr Dot's Science Community to find out more!

Top Tip!

This week; just a thought:

You can't just throw science at someone and hope that it sticks!

Lunderston Bay

This summer I took a trip to  one of my favourite places, the absolutely beautiful Lunderston Bay, on the West Coast of Scotland. The Clyde Estuary, just round the corner from Port Glasgow and Greenock, opens out into a stunning landscape. Seagulls, glittering water, layers of rock formations providing lunar-like vistas.....and rock pools, teeming with life, formed in what look like old laval bubbles....a truly timeless juxtaposition of old and new.
Look out for our photos and video clips; science truly is everywhere!
